The Hawthorne Public Schools wanted to highlight the facilities improvements made to its high school through a recent bond issue. The district called on us to create a print newsletter for distribution to the entire community.
Rather than nuts and bolts or bricks and mortar, we focused our efforts on showing how students are benefiting from the improvements in tangible ways. Great photos depicting “education in action” drew attention to the text. Rather than employing a staid list of bulleted points in an article, the strategy gave the document life, underscoring the school’s high level of student engagement.
The newsletter was recognized with an award of excellence from the National School Public Relations Association.
A trio of companion videos was also completed which showed how the high school was meeting the needs of high-achieving students following three distinctly different paths – engineering/STEM, art, and athletics. (See one in the video section.)
